Dear Friends,
Summer is suddenly here. We have been rewarded with a lengthy spring in San Antonio,
but by the calendar we know that hot temperatures are ahead. Each season brings about changes. We plant different flowers,
we plan vacations, we think about times past and times to come. This year some of our households are experiencing our children
graduating from high school. This is a mile stone for the children as well as for the parents. We suddenly think back to the
day they were born, the achievements, the disappointments, the beginnings, the opportunities that await them. It is in much
the same way we celebrate Memorial Day. It is a holiday which gives us time to reflect on those we have loved and lost and
those who have bravely served this nation and given their lives for our freedom. The season offers a time to lift up our blessings
and reflect on the journeys our lives have taken.
So often we jump from one season into the next without
even a pause to catch our breaths. We simply go from one kind of schedule into another. We change one form of busy for another.
As of late I have been nostalgic for those long days of summer. Remember when we were young and summer days lasted forever
and we thought we were so pitiful because we didn't have anything to do? How I miss those summers of nothing but sitting on
the porch reading, swinging, or playing with the neighborhood kids until late in the evening. Today we seem to schedule every
available moment so that our kids will be active and involved. We often forget leisure and go for activity - any activity.
How much of life do we miss by being so busy that we fail to look up and appreciate the world around us? How much do we miss?
This summer I pray that you will all take a few minutes each day to thank God for your blessings. Take time to reflect upon
your life, your days, your family, your friends. Take time to pray for God's guidance and wisdom so that as you journey you
will constantly feel the presence of God. May your journey be rich and your blessings many.
See
you Sunday!
Yours in Christ, Suzy
